I hope you had a good week. I’ve been on the road for 3 days last week. I noticed, that in Germany everybody seems to sick to some degree right now. I was pretty afraid that somebody will infect me. I was so glad that I didn’t catch a cold or something when I came back home on Wednesday evening. I was just sitting in front of the pc when suddenly some jabed both of my eyes with red hot knifes. From one moment to another, my eyes burned like fire and tears were shooting out horizontally. Every lightray was feeling like a high power laser, aimed directly at my pupil. I had no idea what was happening, but as I it was already pretty late, I decided that a good nights sleep will fix this. In the morning, it turned out that sleep can’t fix everything. Both of my eyes had a crimson color and the light was so glaring I almost could keep them open. So I decided that I maybe wouldn’t so bad to go to the doctor and let it check out. As it turned out, I got a pretty bad infection in both eyes and the doctor forbade me to go to work for the next two days. Not that it would have made much sense to go to work. I almost couldn’t see anything and the ointment that I had to put in my eyes didn’t help my visibility so much either. But that left me sitting at home almost blind, with plenty of time to think about this weeks picture.
At first I had no clue what to do. I was sitting at home, a little annoyed that I couldn’t do anything because of my eyes and that no good idea for the picture was coming to my mind. So I brooded about the lacking winter this year and that I it would be great if some snow would be around. I was thinking about skiing, ice skating and how you guys in the us surely can’t complain about the lack of snow this year. Eventually it came to my mind, that if there is no winter outside, why not make your own winter inside. And what better location for that could there be then the fridge? When I told Marie about that idea, she immediately decided to try it out. So she grabbed her ice skates jumped in the fridge and began skating around. So I set up my strobes and began shooting ;-).
I used a crosslight for Marie, 1 striplight right in front of her left of the camera and one strobe with my softbox like 120° behind her on the right. With this set up her black jacket was still a little too dark for my tasted, so I put a bare third strobe up aimed at the ceiling to lighten it up just a little bit more. For lighting the fridge, I just used my softbox left of the camera. The editing this week was much more work than usually. I didn’t do so many compositions up to now, but it is the general direction I want to head. So I hope you like it. If you have any thoughts about it, I’m always happy to read your comment.
So long – Florian
