Hi, as it gets colder and colder outside it sometimes seems like everybody around me gets sick. In our office, no day goes by where not a least one colleague is coughing and sneezing at me. Call me paranoid, but I just hate it being surrounded by germs. Probably it’s just my imagination, but I can almost feel it physically if someone coughs in my general direction from like 5 meters away. So in order not to stay healthy even despite all circumstances, there are three things to do. First, wash your hands. Yes, this seems obvious, but I’m always astonished how many people are seemingly unaware of this fact. Second, do sports. Not just in winter, but all year around. And third, eat fruits and vegetables. Last week, Marie and I restocked our supply with fresh, delicious fruits. So I thought, why not make a fruit themed picture. And because I thought about a pic with many gnome like Flos I thought, why not letting them climb around this pile of fruit.
This took a lot longer to shoot than my usual pictures. Not just because I had to shoot different poses, but also, because I had to mind the different perspectives in the different parts of the picture. This was not an easy task, mainly because my basement studio is just not high enough to shoot such picture from a low perspective and still hang my softboxes high enough to get the kind of light I wanted to use. But after some fiddling around, it almost worked out the way I wanted. Still, there is one MiniMe whose perspective is not quite right. Can you tell which one it is ;-)?
For the Background I used 1 1/2 light setup. Mainlight is a softbox at 07:00. And there also was a window behind the scene, but as it was a pretty cloudy day, not so much light was shining through. For the Gnomes I used a 3 light setup. One softbox and one umbrella at 05:00 and 07:00 depending on which way the gnome was looking. And one rim light at 02:00 or 10:00 (also depending on the direction I was facing).
Until next time – Florian
