this weekend I traveled to Austria for the 40th anniversary of our Taekwon Do association. There was a big demonstration with over 60 black belts from at least 4 different countries throughout europe. So basically I spent most of the weekend on the stage in the concert hall where the demo took place, to train and finalize the show. The show took place on Saturday evening. More than 4 hours of pure and awesome Taekwon Do. I just wish the light and sound engineers were as good as the athletes. Unfortunately these guys had no idea what they were doing. Even after 6 hours of practice, they just couldn’t manage to switch on the light and the music on time. But all in all it was a great show. When I came home on Sunday afternoon, I was exhausted. And I didn’t even show something special. For me, such events also are a great motivation boost. It’s always impressive to see what you can do with some years of hard training and determination. I just wish I had had the time to follow the event with my camera, too. So instead of making a big shooting and hours of photoshop, I just made a very small light study on sunday evening. To be honest, this week I just wanted to take a short pic and be done with it. So I decided to try a B&W studio kind of picture. Of course, I did the editing myself without one of those cheap B&W filters. And even though I’m think B&W is overrated, if done right, you can get some nice results. Next week will be something bigger again ;-)
I used a 3 strobe setup. 2 Strobes with gridded softboxes at 02:00 & 10:00. And one softbox through an umbrella at 07:00 for fill.
