originally I wanted to try out my new lens for this weeks picture. Unfortunately, the weather was pretty rainy the whole weekend and most of last week, too. It almost feels like I didn’t see the sun, since I came back from vacation. Hopefully the weather will be a little bit better when the Oktoberfest in Munich starts next week ;-). So I had to change my plans last minute which was not so easy, because at first, I just couldn’t come up with a decent back up idea. But finally, after some hard thinking and extensive inspiration research, I decided for a “fashion style” portrait.
Usually, I have this picture idea in mind and then decide for the color look I want to use. This week was somewhat different. Most of my recent pictures are more on the blueish side of the color palette, but I wanted to make a picture which is more in the green / yellow palette for some time now. So this week, I basically decided for the color palette first, before I decided for a motive. I finally came up with this idea on saturday night. Of course, I didn’t have any accessories (besides the rough cloth) for this available on such short term. So Marie and I just headed out to the woods on Sunday and gathered all this nice stuff you can see in the picture. As you can probably imagine, there was dirt and mud all over the stuff. So I tried to clean it at least a little bit in the shower before we went shooting. While scrubbing of the vines, I suddenly noticed like a million tiny spiders crawling all over my bathtub. After looking a little closer, I noticed that all the vines were full of these tiny spiders, coming from some spider eggs attached to the vine. But after removing the leaves with the eggs on it and extensive showering of the leafs, I think I removed most of them. Fortunately, Marie is not afraid of spiders, at least not of such tiny ones ;-). The shooting itself was a lot of fun. Or rather, the decorating of Marie right before the shoot. She had to stand pretty still as most of the stuff was just attached to her with bobby pins and thus pretty slacky.
I used 2 strobes for this. The main light with gridded Softbox right above and in front of her at around 07:00. And of course a second strobe through my striplight as rim light at 02:00. At first, I just wanted to use only the main light, but I just can’t let go of the precious rim light. Almost everything looks better with rim light ;-).
So long – Florian
