“Oh no! Now everybody on the internet will think that I’m a bloody redneck” Marie stated after I explained to her what I wanted to do for this weeks picture. Thank god that not so many people have access to the internet nowadays ;-).
And while we are on the topic… I want to take this opportunity to say Hello to our all friends at the NSA. I hope you like my blog. It would be great if you could leave a comment. And don’t you dare using my pictures without permission!
This week was a great week. I feel like this project is stimulating my creativity. Usually I had to struggle pretty hard to come up with some decent ideas. This week I even had several new ideas, besides the ones that are still on my ToDo list so far. So I opted for this picture for my week 3. The shooting was a lot fun. I have so many outtakes where I just couldn’t keep a straight face. Marie is a much better actor than I am. That’s why she had to take the more demanding part, by sitting on the couch and drinking beer. At first I wanted to use a beer can, but hell… As you know, I live in Munich – Bavaria, the world capital of beer. So of course I just had to use a Bavarian Weißbierglas (in Bavaria it is almost
frowned upon drinking beer out of cans).
The hardest part on taking this picture, was the placement of the strobes. I always thought my apartment is quite big. As it turns out, if you want to take a picture using 3 strobes, it seems to suddenly shrink down to matchbox size. Actually I wanted to place my new striplight somewhere behind me, so I could get a nice rimlight. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough space in my living room for that. So I used the striplight cam left 45° in front of me as fill light for me, one strobe cam right 45° through an umbrella as fill for Marie, and a third strobe to get the nice reflections on the vacuum cleaner. I didn’t want to have the reflection of the striplight in the picture on the wall, but again, there just wasn’t enough space in my living room to place the strobe in an angle, or at an distance where this reflection didn’t occur. Well, I think it turned out quite nice despite these little drawbacks. But as I’m kind of a perfectionist, I’m rarely satisfied with my pictures, and always strife to improve myself. So I really need to find locations for shooting where I have decent space to place my strobes in the future. Otherwise it just feels like I’m wasting so much potential now that I have 3 strobes but can’t place them the way I want.
This week, I didn’t have so much time for working on my page. But at least I managed to implement a gallery with my older pictures. This is just a first temporary solution, as I don’t like the design at all. But again, I have to figure out first how to do this properly. Man this homepage stuff is much more difficult than I expected. But I will keep on learning and improving my page. If you have any proposals, or advice, feel free to post it in the comments. Also I found out, that the like buttons I implemented last week, don’t work on any other pc than mine. How can this even be? I will look into this as soon as possible. At least the social share buttons should be working. So, instead of gabbing around anymore, I’ get to work now.
Until next week – Florian
