this week I was home every evening for the first time in the past 2 month. Lately I was travelling so much, I almost feared that someday I wouldn’t find the way home again. The downside of this is, when I’m not travelling, I have to take care of the huge pile of work that is waiting for me in the office like some kind of evil monster, just waiting for me to drop by, to pin me to my desk, not letting go for hours. And what makes this even more annoying, is the fact, that this week the sun decided to finally start the summer with full momentum and the temperatures rose to 35°C in Munich for several days this week.
I wanted to shoot a new profile picture for my various photography online portals (like facebook, flickr, 500px) for some time now. But no matter how hard I thought about it, I just couldn’t think of a good theme for this. I just knew, that it should be something fun and of course should show my passion for photography. So 2 nights ago, out of nowhere this idea appeared in my mind. Have you ever heard someone say “The camera takes the picture. You just have to push a button”? That’s how I usually take my pictures. Set the autotimer to 2 seconds, throw all the stuff in the air roughly where I need it to be and then the camera does the rest. Pretty easy huh? ;-) The masking for this picture was a pain in the @5#!. It took me almost 2 hours till I had everything masked. Ok. To be honest, I didn’t just mask the parts you can see in the picture, but an additional strobe and one lens, too. But in the end, I decided not to use these parts here.
I used a three light setup for this. The two main strobes were pretty much standing where they are located in the picture. Just with the difference, that I used softboxes on them. The third strobes was standing at 07:00 with an umbrella on, just to lighten up the dark side of my face and my shirt a little bit. Also I used an additional reflector at 02:00 for a bit of additional rim light.
Thank god, next week is just a 3 workday week. That should leave me some more time for photography. Maybe I will even work on my page a little bit. There is still so much stuff I want to do…
