this week I had a nice week travelling in Austria. For you guys out there who are not that familiar with the european geography, this is the beautiful small country, located between Germany and Italy, right in the alps. The weather was great, very warm and sunny, so it was just perfect not to sit in the office all day, but driving through the mountains. Especially right now, as the spring is coming to the mountains and everything is getting green and nice. The flowers and bushes are blooming in the mountains and the snow is melting away. I was a little surprised to see that there is still snow on the mountains. In Munich, we didn’t have much snow this year. It snowed just a few times, but the snow didn’t stay for long. It is not uncommon that we still have snow in April. But I don’t expect there will be anymore this year.
Unfortunately as I was on a business trip, I didn’t have any time AT ALL to go and take pictures. But I decided, that I wanted to do some spring / flower themed picture for this week. Unfortunately when I was home again, the sun was gone. Not because of bad weather, but because there was a big sand / dust cloud from the sahara desert travelling all the way over the mediterranean sea and the alps to cloud the sun over here in Munich. All just to cross my plans for this week.
After my first fit of rage, I decided to cool down a little. And of course the best thing to cool down, is some meditation. So I sat down for a while and meditated over a new idea for this weeks picture. I was so deep relaxed, floating around in meditation, that I didn’t even notice Marie grabbing my Camera and taking some pictures of me.
Again, I used a 3 strobe setup. But not the regular scissor light I used for many of my recent pictures. I took the background picture on my last trip to Japan. It’s a temple in Kyoto. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name of it. But as I already had the background, I had to match the lighting of my subject to it. So I put one strobe with my softbox above me (slightly to the right) to simulate the sun. I used a second light as fill light on the left and slightly behind me. The third strobe was lying on the ground in front of me, pointed upwards to the couch I was sitting on, to lighten up my legs. I hope you like it.
Until next week – Florian
